About Find a Funeral Director
Find a Funeral Director is a free, independent price-comparison directory for funeral directors across the London Borough of Bexley. We publish the real Standardised Price List figures funeral directors are legally required to disclose under the CMA's Funerals Market Investigation Order 2021, so families can compare what a funeral actually costs before they make any enquiry. We take no commission and no funeral director can pay to rank higher.
Why we built this
Arranging a funeral is one of the few significant purchases people make while grieving, usually in a hurry, and often without ever seeing a second price. Funeral costs vary widely between providers in the same town for a broadly similar service, but those prices are scattered across dozens of separate websites and PDFs. We gather them into one place so a family can see the range in a few minutes.
How we make money
This site is free to use and free to be listed on. We do not take commission, we do not sell leads, and no funeral director can pay for a higher position. The site carries advertising to cover its running costs.
Where our prices come from
Prices are taken from each funeral director's Standardised Price List, which they must publish under the CMA's Funerals Market Investigation Order 2021. Prices change, so always confirm the current figure with the funeral director before making a decision.
What we cover
The directory covers 20 funeral director branches operated by 13 firms across the London Borough of Bexley — Bexleyheath, Sidcup, Welling, Erith, Crayford, Belvedere, Slade Green and Blackfen. That includes long-established local independents, the national chains that trade under their original family names, and fixed-price online providers. We list every firm we can verify as trading in the borough, whether or not it publishes a headline price and whether or not its prices are competitive.
How we check a listing
Each entry starts from the firm's own Standardised Price List. We record the attended funeral figure and the direct cremation figure exactly as published, note the date we read it, and keep the branch address and phone number in the form the firm itself uses. Where a firm publishes no price at all — two of the thirteen currently don't — the listing says “on request”. We never estimate, interpolate or average a missing figure into a firm's listing, because a made-up number is worse than no number when a family is deciding where to spend several thousand pounds.
The prices shown are the funeral director's own professional charges. They exclude third-party costs: the cremation fee, the burial or interment fee, the medical and coroner's paperwork, the minister or celebrant, flowers, the order of service and the wake. Those third-party fees can add well over a thousand pounds to a cremation in this part of London, which is why every listing tells you to ask for a full written quotation rather than relying on a headline figure alone.
Our own research
Because the published lists are scattered and hard to read side by side, we compile them ourselves and publish what we find. Across the 18 Bexley branches that publish a price, the median attended funeral director's fee is £3,495, the lowest is £1,325 and the highest is £4,200 — a 3.2x spread inside one borough. Direct cremation runs from £1,095 to £1,995, with a median of £1,500. What this site is not
We are not a funeral director, a broker or a comparison service that takes a cut. We don't arrange funerals, we can't quote on a firm's behalf, and we have no financial relationship with any provider listed. We also aren't a substitute for regulated advice: on funeral plans, benefits entitlements or probate, the guides point you to the FCA register, the DWP and GOV.UK rather than offering an opinion of our own.
Corrections
Prices move, branches close and firms change hands. If you're a funeral director and a figure on your listing is wrong or out of date, or you're a family who was quoted something different from what we show, tell us via the contact page and we'll check it against the current price list and correct it. Corrections take priority over everything else we do here.
